New developments (updated 4/20/01)

Legislation to ban cruise-to-nowhere gaming: A. 2857 would make gaming activity on "cruises to nowhere" a class E felony. The measure, which has multiple sponsors, would take effect "on the first day of November next succeeding the date on which it shall have become a law." There has been no change in the bill's status since the last update.

Nor has there been any apparent movement on the Senate companion bill, S. 2717.

Bill to legalize casino gaming in certain counties and cities: A. 6525 would authorize gaming, including slot machines, at land-based casinos in Greene, Sullivan and Ulster counties, as well as in Niagara Falls, Buffalo and Warren County. It also would authorize slot machines at certain horse racing tracks. The bill is pending in the Racing and Wagering Committee.
