KentuckyNew Developments (updated 2/7/02) Business groups support track slots: Two large business groups have come out in support of slot machines at Kentucky racetracks, saying that the six casinos on Kentucky's border are damaging the state's horse industry. On January 23, the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce's board of directors voted unanimously to support slots at horse tracks, said Steve Stevens, the group's vice president for public affairs. Greater Louisville Inc. took a similar position late last year and in 2000, said spokesman Riggs Lewis. Mike Ridenour, vice president for public affairs at the Greater Lexington Chamber of Commerce, said his group is waiting for a "unified proposal" from the horse industry before taking a position on slots at the tracks. Although the issue has garnered much attention in this year's General Assembly, no bill has yet been introduced on the subject. |
