FloridaNew Developments (updated 12/03/02) Meeting of legislators and regulators from gaming states: The winter meeting of the National Council of Legislators from Gaming States (NCLGS) will be held January 10-12 at The Shelborne Beach Resort in South Beach, Florida. Topics to be discussed at the meeting include the legalization of slots and VLTs at pari-mutuel facilities, state efforts to combat illegal internet gaming, legal challenges to the gaming industry, tribal-state compacts, casinos and e-gaming, compulsive gambling, and the regulation of state lotteries – among other issues. For the particular benefit of new legislators, the agenda for Friday, January 10 includes a special session featuring brief overviews of the latest information on various gaming issues: Indian gaming, state lotteries, internet gaming, pari-mutuels, riverboat casinos, and cruise-to-nowhere gaming. Those planning to attend the three-day meeting are urged to register promptly; hotel room availability and rates cannot be guaranteed after December 19.
